5th conference of the European Lightweighting Network
Following the 4th conference of the European Lightweighting Network held at the end of May 2024 in Liège, Belgium, by the University of Liège - Professor Pierre Duysinx - under the auspices of the Belgian Presidency of European Council, the 5th edition (ELN5) took place this year in Krakow (Poland) on June 4-5 under the auspices of the Polish Presidency of European Council, with the overall purpose of establishing a shared European Lightweighting strategy. The conference attended by government representatives from different EU countries, and stakeholders from industry and academia. It was an opportunity for all participants to be inspired by best practices in other EU countries and industries, and to become part of our ELN networking and open collaboration platforms : strategic challenges and International Collaboration in lightweighting technologies, scientific partnerships as the future of Lightweight Materials, Implementations with the main topics: the role of Lightweight Technology in the Energy Transition, Innovative Technologies in Lightweight Materials and their practical implementation, ranging from clean mobility, fossil free energy generation, sustainable construction.
Belgium, and in particular, Wallonia was represented Jérôme Tchoufang Tchuindjang by from the School of Engineering of the University of Liège and David Dumas, Cenaero Research Center, acting also for the Innovative Strategical Initiative « Contribute » (Wallonia).
The ELN network is an initiative by public authorities from, up to now, Austria, Belgium, Germany, Slovakia, Spain, and Sweden. Its purpose is to establish a European platform and strategy for common goals concerning environment protection by reduction of raw material usage through reduced weight in products or circular economy.
