One or more doctoral colleges may be set up within each Faculty, Institute and School of the University of Liège where doctoral studies are offered. Each college is associated with a scientific discipline.

The role of the doctoral college is to organise and manage these studies at the level of the corresponding discipline. In particular, it is responsible for :

  • admitting candidates, granting equivalences and assessing prior learning,
  • appointing the promoter
  • scientific monitoring of the student throughout the course, including the definition of a study programme,
  • proposing a thesis committee and jury to the Faculty Council.

The organisation of doctorates by each college is specified in its own regulations. These internal regulations supplement and clarify the Academy's general regulations.
