The EMC Laboratory of Electromagnetic Compatibility of the University of Liège (ULiège), within the School of Engineering (Montefiore Institute), is currently carrying out tests on the UVmastercare equipment intended for the decontamination of dental practices.

This equipment developed in Liège by the company IoTCo, located in the Sart Tilman Science Park, uses UV-C radiation to reduce microbial and viral loads, including Sars-Cov-2, in the aerosol, on the soil and the surfaces around the patient's chair by up to 99.99%.

Placing an electronic product on the market and its free circulation in Europe require verification of its compliance with the European directives, one of which concerns electromagnetic compatibility (2014/30/EU). This conformity can be demonstrated by carrying out tests in accredited laboratories such as ULiège's EMC Lab (ISO 17025 since 2003).

"We have indeed been contacted by the manufacturer for time-sensitive tests in our anechoic chamber. Considering the health crisis, the time-to-market of this type of product has to be very short in order to guarantee the continuation of dental care in a safety way, for the practitioner and his staff, as well as for the patients", explains Véronique Beauvois, head of the EMC Laboratory which is part of the ACE (Applied and Computational Electromagnetics) research unit, headed by Pr Christophe Geuzaine, from the Department of Electricity, Electronics and IT (Montefiore Institute / School fo Engineering).

The UVmastercare solution was created in collaboration with Professor Emeritus in Periodontology Eric Rompen from the ULiège.
